Francois Pinault hands over the Pierre Daix prize 2018

The Collection Pinault is pleased to announce that this year’s Pierre Daix Prize has been awarded to Pérégrinations. Paysages entre nature et histoire.

François Pinault presented the prize to the author, the art historian Pierre Wat, on Monday evening, at 6 pm, in a ceremony held at the Musée Picasso in Paris, on Laurent Le Bon’s invitation.
François Pinault created the Pierre Daix Prize in 2015 as a tribute to the memory of his friend, a writer and French art historian, who passed away in 2014. Since then, the annual prize of ten thousand euros honours a work dedicated to the history of modern and contemporary art.
The jury, and its president Jean-Jacques Aillagon, wanted to reward an innovative essay on the theme of the landscape in painting, as well as the ‘exceptional swell of emotion as one reads. It is a passionate work, written with true literary talent’ where the ‘narrative mingles the rigour of the art historian with the meditative subjectivity of the writer’ to recount ‘a landscape that has become a site of history and its tragedy’.

Pérégrinations. Paysages entre nature et histoire was published in 2017 by Editions Hazan, in their ‘Fine Art’ series.
